🌿 Silver Leaf (Elaeagnus) Hedging

  • Botanical name: Elaeagnus × ebbingei.
  • Common names: Silver Leaf, Oleaster, Elaeagnus hedge.


🌤 Growth & Appearance

  • Evergreen (retains leaves year-round).
  • Silvery-green leaves with a glossy upper surface and silvery underside – highly reflective and attractive.
  • Dense, bushy habit ideal for privacy and wind protection.
  • Small, fragrant, creamy-white flowers in autumn; followed by small orange berries in spring.


🌱 Growth Rate & Size

  • Fast-growing: around 30–45 cm (1–1.5 ft) per year in good conditions.
  • Typically grows up to 3–4 m (10–13 ft) tall if left untrimmed.
  • Easily kept to desired height with pruning.


🌿 Planting & Maintenance

  • Can be planted in troughs, containers, or directly in the ground – good for patios.
  • Prune once or twice a year (late spring and late summer) to maintain shape and density.
